TRIBAL ART MOROCCO

Morocco
The founder of Tapis Berbères, born in 1959, has been a Berber rug collector since 1997 and an exporter for more than two decades. By traveling extensively across the Middle and High Atlas with a 4x4, he has sourced rugs directly from villages and households, learning about the unique styles, symbols, and techniques.
Since 1999, he has been the artistic director of Galerie Démesure in France while simultaneously building an export business, supplying over 500 rugs to Anthropology in the USA.
In 2012, he began creating his own carpet designs, combining his passion for antiques with exclusive contemporary collections. Today, with a network of more than 120 dealers in 40 countries, he is recognized as a leading exporter and specialist in Berber rugs.
His expertise also extends to Azilal rugs with their abstract wool patterns and the legendary Beni Ouarain rugs, renowned since the 1970s for their natural virgin wool and iconic black-and-white diamond designs. With a commitment to sustainable development, he works to support Berber women toward greater independence.
