BGP Oman entered the Omani market in 2003 and began operations for Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) in 2004 — a company owned primarily by the Omani government, with Shell, Total, and Partex as shareholders. PDO is internationally recognized for its world-class HSSE management and advanced geophysical technologies.
Since 2004, BGP Oman has completed over 60 projects across 25 blocks, acquiring 75 million seismic shots and covering 83,000 square kilometers — representing nearly 27% of Oman’s total territory.
Through 18 consecutive years of partnership with PDO, BGP Crew 8622 expanded tremendously in capacity and innovation. The recording system grew from 4,500 channels in 2004 to 60,000 in 2015 (the largest in the world), and by 2021 incorporated 30,000 nodal systems, doubling operating hours from 12 to 24 daily, while productivity rose from 2,000 to 50,000 VP’s per day.
These continuous advancements enabled BGP to significantly lower operating costs for clients while creating stable employment opportunities for Omani nationals.
BGP’s collaboration with PDO also accelerated breakthroughs in seismic acquisition technologies, such as wide-azimuth, high-channel, DSSS, and blended acquisition — methods now adopted by other major oil companies worldwide.
